For too many torpedoes in the water for all of them to miss during July, but is the ship sinking?
11-15 (.423), 48-58 (.453) Overall. Division 3rd (+1), Overall 17th (-1). We definitely took some hits, but none of them directly to the engine room. Foundering, but not sunk.
All-Star Game happened, we sent Max Scherzer (2.78 ERA apparently a fan favorite despite a 7-10 record). He did not appear in the game, the New Orleans blacklisting continues. Honestly, if I had my choice of two dozen perfect arms to throw, I probably would bench Max, too.
The good news is that many/most of the biggest shark attacks of this season are behind us now. The remaining schedule ahead of us is roughly average. No playoffs this year, for sure.
But unless we get deeply mired in an extended losing streak, we should stay out of the Dead Zone.
